Response to Coronavirus ~ Our Plan for the Summer
29 July 2020
Staying in touch with nature is always the best medicine, especially during these times. In response to the current pandemic, I have changed the look and feel of my tours to include all the benefits of being in nature, with all necessary safety precautions.
For example, this summer I will meet you in the Park and begin your guided hike from a pre-designated trailhead. Each tour will be limited to single households at this time with a maximum of 5 people (not including me).
I will offer to bring you to areas of the Park that have fewer people, where there is incredible beauty off the beaten path. This may mean we do not go to Paradise, since it is typically filled to overflowing with crowds of people. Since this is such a large park, I’ll show you the less traveled areas with many options for enjoying the beauty of flora and fauna. We can stay in one area for a longer hike or drive to different locations in our own vehicles! Know that if Paradise is a place you desire to explore, we can make that happen. Perhaps we begin our day earlier to avoid the crowds or hike later in the day and catch some lovely alpine glow as the sunsets.
To increase your safety, please bring your own lunch, snacks and water. Also, provide your own mask or face covering and hand sanitizer. We will all be wearing our masks as we pass other hikers on the trail and when we, as a group, need to be close to see something. We will all maintain the recommended 6 foot distance, when possible, from other hikers and myself as your guide. Those of you in your same household groups can be closer of course. Please note that if these guidelines are not followed, I will choose to end the tour and give you guidance for returning to your vehicle.
It is my role as your guide to create an environment for enjoying the beauty of nature and being aware of the new normal for being outdoors with other people in the same space. I believe we can enjoy the Park together by adhering to the guidelines set forward by the Center for Disease Control and Washington State Health and Safety such as: cough/sneeze in your elbow, avoid touching your face, and stay at home if you are sick or feel you may have been exposed. If you have any additional concerns or needs, please call. I’m excited to share the wonders of Mt. Rainier with you! To our Health and well-being!

Avoid the crowds with my guidance
TourMtRainier takes pride in offering you a personalized, safe visit to Mount Rainier National Park.
We are one of the few companies with a Commercial Use Permit from the Park. This permit allows me to offer you hikes longer than 1 mile beyond a trailhead helping us get away from the summer crowds. This is a big plus during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I specialize in fully-guided, small group tours designed to maximize your time and experience at Mount Rainier National Park. You will have more time to hike, relax and take in the diversity of the Park’s beauty.
TourMtRainier is operated by Owner/Tour Guide, Diann Sheldon, who has over 30 years of experience guiding satisfied customers. I love spending the day with other National Park/outdoor enthusiasts and look forward to creating memories with you!
Meet us at the trailhead and enjoy a fully guided, private experience. You will have time to hike, observe wildlife, enjoy wildflowers, glaciers, waterfalls and more. Travel from a temperate rainforest to alpine meadows in one day! Our selected hikes are beginner level and can be modified based on your ability and interests. This is your day to explore Mount Rainier National Park!
