Winter/Spring Tour Information
Winter in the park brings many possibilities for discovering the beauty of Mt. Rainier National Park. Paced for the beginner, our first trek is in Mt. Rainier’s renowned old-growth forest with a walk among some of the forest’s giant trees. During our snowshoe trek, you will see this park’s incredible winter scenery. Spend the day learning about glaciers, keeping an eye out for wildlife, and be ready for fun! New to snowshoeing? No worries! If you can walk, you can snowshoe.
Pick-up and drop-off at Tacoma, Lakewood, Ashford, Elbe and South Sound area hotels and/or the SR512 Park and Ride. Professional, highly qualified tour guide with travel in a clean, comfortable van. Hearty lunch, entrance fees, snowshoes/poles, leg gaiters, binoculars, and spotting scope included for no extra charge.
What To Bring?
Bring a water bottle to refill, snacks, waterproof/windproof jacket, rain pants, camera with extra batteries, hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Dress in layers to adjust to the possible changing weather and higher elevations. Wear sturdy waterproof hiking shoes. Avoid cotton next to your skin if possible. Sturdy waterproof boots for snowshoes are highly recommended. Boots can be rented at Whittaker Mountaineering in Ashford, WA on the way to the Park.
Pick-Up and Drop-Off
We pick you up at your hotel in Tacoma, Lakewood, DuPont and other locations in the Southern Puget Sound. Staying at a lodge near the Nisqually Entrance (southwest corner, Ashford/Elbe area)? We are happy to pick you up here as well! Staying in Seattle? Meet us at SR512 Park and Ride located at 10617 S. Tacoma Way, Lakewood, WA 98499. Parking is free or you can travel by bus from Seattle. Pick up times vary depending on your location and season. Our pick up times range from 7:30 to 9:30am. Tours are from 8-11 hours in length depending on season, weather, and traffic.

Throughout the day we take opportunities to explore the variety of environments offered in the park. Our Mt. Rainier hikes are paced for the beginner and can be modified according to the group’s abilities and interests. When necessary, we provide snowshoes, poles, and snow gaiters to travel across the terrain. Waterproof boots can be rented along the way at Whittaker Mountaineering in Ashford for $16.43/person for the day.
